Roborace unveils Robocar, the world’s first AI-powered, self-driving electric racer.

The world’s first self-driving electric racing car has been unveiled during an extensive tech-show in Spain.

Roborace made its debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Called Robocar, the racer is similar to other race cars in looks, except that it misses a seat and is 100 percent automotive.

Robocar uses a wide range of technologies to self drive from light detection to radars, AI cameras, optical speed and ultrasonic sensors. The car is equipped with four 300-kilowatt motors and can speed up to 320 kilometers per hour.

A rally featuring such cars may sound too mechanical to be fun at the first glimpse, but engineers say auto races can be exciting as long as humans are somehow involved.

Engineers say Robocar still has a long way before featuring in an actual race, but they hope that the competitive nature of the exhibition and ideas from visiting techies can contribute to further developments in the field.
