Matthew Vincent Raymond says he’s innocent, cites temporary insanity.

It’s been more than two months since four people were gunned down in Fredericton.

Two police officers and two other innocent victims died in the Aug. 10 shooting that shook the New Brunswick capital and sent shockwaves across Canada.

A day after that shooting, 48-year-old Matthew Vincent Raymond was charged with four counts of first degree murder while receiving medical treatment for injuries he sustained in the ordeal.

Today, Raymond appeared before a judge and said that he should be “exonerated” because of temporary insanity.

He ignored his defence lawyer’s plea to sit down and said he shouldn’t be in custody, where he say he’s been threatened, and should be acquitted “right now.”

Despite this, the alleged shooter hasn’t made a formal plea and will return to court a week from today to set a date for a preliminary hearing.
