Magna Carta theft attempt: Everything you need to know.

The famous document that is kept at Salisbury Cathedral was undamaged in the attack.
Just after 5.00pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday October 25th), an attempt was made to smash the glass box surrounding the Magna Carta.

The alarm was sounded in the Chapter House, but there’s been no damage to the document itself and nobody was injured.

A 45 year old man has been arrested in connection with what happened.

He’s been arrested on suspicion of attempted theft, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage.

FIREFIGHTERS CALLED OUT TO CATHEDRAL:
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were called to the Cathedral as the automatic fire alarm sounded.

A crew from Salisbury did attend, but weren’t required to take any action.

The Fordingbridge crew were also on their way:

Wiltshire Police say they know there were a ‘number of witnesses to the incident who may not have spoken to police’.

If you can help, you’re asked to get in touch with officers on 101 and quote crime reference number 541800101438.
