Martin Sheen was found late Friday evening, several hours after his son Charlie Sheen tweeted that he had not been able to reach his parents since the destructive Woolsey Fire erupted north of Los Angeles and began raging toward the exclusive beachside town of Malibu.
“I cannot get ahold of my parents Martin and Janet Sheen,” Charlie Sheen, 53, wrote on Twitter Friday evening.
“They are in the group, at the staging ground near Zuma Beach,” Charlie Sheen continued, referring to a beach in Malibu. “If anyone has eyes on them, please let me know that they are safe and sound in the middle of this horrific scenario.”
A Fox News crew found Martin Sheen late Friday evening in Zuma Beach, where the “West Wing” actor told a Fox 11 reporter, “We’re just fine.”
Martin Sheen explained that he had his wife evacuated around 9:30 a.m. Friday from their home in the Point Dume neighborhood in Malibu.
“We’ve been here ever since,” said Martin Sheen, who then offered this message to his four children: “Emilio, Ramon, Renee, Charlie…we’re fine. We’re at Zuma Beach and will probably sleep in the car tonight. We’re just fine and hope you guys are, too.”
“We haven’t lost any lives so we have that to be grateful for,” Martin Sheen continued, calling the latest wildfires “the worst ones I’ve seen.”
The Woolsey Fire, which began as a small brush fire Thursday afternoon near Simi Valley, had grown to 35,000 acres as of Friday evening, forcing about 75,000 people from their homes, with the entire city of Malibu, with 13,000 residents, under mandatory evacuation orders.
Reports late Friday said flames had surrounded Pepperdine University, where the students were sheltering in place. But subsequent reports said that fire crews were fighting back the flames from the campus.
The Woolsey Fire prompted a number of prominent Hollywood figures to evacuate their homes Thursday night and Friday in Hidden Hills, Calabasas and Malibu, including Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Kourtney Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Cher and “The Shape of Water” director Guillermo del Toro.
In a tweet, singer and actress Cher wrote, “I’m worried about my house, but there is nothing I can do.” Cher lives on the Pacific Coast Highway near Puerco Canyon, the Hollywood Reporter said. “Friends houses have burned,” she continued. “I can’t bear the thought of there being no Malibu I’ve had a house in Malibu since 1972.”
The Woolsey Fire has reportedly destroyed the hilltop home of reality TV star, Olympian and transgender activist Caitlyn Jenner. She took to Instagram Friday to say that she and her self-described partner Sophia Hutchins had relocated to “a safe house” but that she didn’t know about the status of her house.
The fire also destroyed a portion of the old Western Town of the Paramount Ranch, in Agoura Hills, which had been used as a location for a number of Hollywood films and the HBO series, “Westworld,” the Hollywood Reporter said.
