Waterloo Regional Police are continuing to investigate the death of a 20-month-old child from Kitchener.
On February 21, 2019, at approximately 12 p.m., police responded to a residence on Heritage Drive after receiving a 9-1-1 call concerning a child in distress.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 20-month-old female without vital signs. Officers immediately performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived, who then continued performing CPR. The child was taken to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on February 22, 2019.
As part of the investigation, officers located suspected fentanyl in the residence.
A 27-year-old Kitchener female has been arrested and charged with one count of Criminal Negligence Causing Death.
