In an unbelievable scene, former professional wrestler Bret “The Hitman” Hart was tackled by an audience member during the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
During his the Hart Foundation induction speech, an audience member ran from their seat into the ring and tackled Bret before security pulled him away. The unidentified audience member was taken to the back.
Following the attack, Bret continued his speech that honored his tag team partner and brother-in-law Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Bret was joined on stage by WWE Superstar, Natalya the daughter of Neidhart who accepted the honor for her father.
WWE provided Newsweek with the following statement on the incident: “An over-exuberant fan surpassed our security at ringside and made his way briefly into the ring. The individual has been turned over to the proper authorities.”
Law enforcement told the Associated Press that a “26-year-old man was in custody and facing criminal charges.”
The Hart Foundation was one of seven inductees in this year’s WWE Hall of Fame. The others being The Honky Tonk Man, Torrie Wilson, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Warrior Award recipient Sue Aitchison, Harlem Heat and DX.
