Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande have donated money to fans who are struggling financially because of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to People magazine, Swift donated $3,000 (roughly £2,500) each to two fans who had complained about their financial burdens.
Samantha Jacobson, a Florida-based waitress, told the magazine that she did not have an income after her workplace closed because of the virus.
She said she was left “speechless” after the timely donation by the “Blank Space” singer-songwriter.
“I couldn’t believe someone I had looked up to and love and respected for so long has reached out with such generosity,” she said.
Sources told Page Six that Grande has also been making donations to her cash-strapped fans, with the “Thank U, Next” star sending between $500 and $1,000 (up to £830) to more than 20 fans using the popular money transfer app Venmo.
The UK government has announced some financial support for people whose employment status has been altered by the pandemic, but questions still remain about the effectiveness of the measures, especially for freelancers and those on zero-hour contracts.
