A restaurant in the NSW tourist village of Thredbo has been forced to close for a week after repeated COVID-19 safety breaches.
Police said inspections at the The Rivers Restaurant in the Snowy Mountains found the venue had exceeded the maximum capacity of patrons, failed to maintain spacing between seating, allowed people to mingle between tables, queues to grow to 30 people standing shoulder-to-shoulder and patrons had consumed drinks while standing.
Dimitri Argeres, NSW Liquor and Gaming director of compliance, said the message wasn’t getting through.
After three inspections found breaches, the venue was warned, then its manager and event promoter were each fined $5000.

Major changes to restrictions for weddings, schools and community sport in New South Wales have been announced.
Up to 20 people will be allowed onto the dance floor at weddings, provided they are part of the bridal party.
Changes to community sport in NSW were also announced, meaning more than one parent will be able to attend games again ahead of grand finals kicking off.
NSW Education Minister Sarah Mitchell also announced the easing of several restrictions in schools, saying school sport will be “as it existed before the pandemic”.
Excursions and school camps will also resume in Term 4, and orientation for kindergarten and Year 7 students will also go ahead.
Up to five people will be allowed to sing in choirs, and there can now be an unlimited number of students in musical ensembles, subject to social distancing.
