Shooting Reported at West Texas High School, Report

Police and other emergency services in Texas on Thursday morning responded to reports of an active shooter at Alpine High School in Brewster County, officials say. One victim has been located and a search is underway for two suspects.

NewsWest9 reports that there is a possible active shooter situation involving two gunmen but this has not been confirmed by the Brewster County Sheriff’s Department.

Police dispatcher Scarlet Eldred told the Associated Press that officers are seeking an “active shooter.”

She didn’t immediately provide additional information, other than the person was a male.

The town of 5,000 people is located near the US-Mexico border, about 220 miles southeast of El Paso.

The school in question has about 280 students and all schools in the western Texas town have been put on lockdown.

Alpine Independent School District says this includes three schools – an elementary, middle and a high school.
