An 11-year-old girl is set to become Britain’s youngest mother with police investigating circumstances of her pregnancy, media reports said.
Police are investigating the shocking case, which has so far been shrouded in secrecy by the authorities. What is known is that a boy who is not much older than the 11-year-old girl is believed to have got her pregnant.
According to the public record, the youngest male in Britain known to have fathered a child in is Sean Stewart, of Bedford. He impregnated a girl in 1998, when he was 12 years old.
Just over a decade ago, Tressa Middleton from West Lothian, Scotland, became Britain’s youngest mother aged 12.
She gave birth to a daughter and raised her for two years but the child was later taken into care because it came to light Miss Middleton had become pregnant as a result of being raped by her brother.
She recently announced that she is to become a mother for the second time and is expecting a baby with her fiancé Darren Young, 30, her partner of seven years.
Overall, the number of teenage girls getting pregnant in England and Wales is continuing to fall.
There were about 23 conceptions per 1,000 15 to 17-year-old girls in 2014, compared to a high of 55 in 1971, according to the Office for National Statistics.
