Belize blue hole: Secrets of the world's largest sinkhole

Secrets of the world’s largest sinkhole have been revealed by a group of scientists and explorers.

The Great Blue Hole in Belize is nearly a thousand feet wide and 410 feet deep. The team of scientists and explorers has mapped the Great Blue Hole in Belize for the first time.

Made famous by renowned explorer Jacques Cousteau in 1971, many of its features had been a mystery. Cousteau’s grandson Fabien and Richard Branson were among the team who conducted 22 dives.

Using two submarines, the expedition captured never before seen images and created the first 3D map of the feature.

The team hope to explore the waters of the British Virgin Islands later in 2019.
