Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) announced Monday night he is voting for former Vice President Joe Biden, and wants other Democrats in the state to join him.
O’Rourke made his endorsement at a Biden rally in Dallas. “We need somebody who can beat Donald Trump,” he said. “The man in the White House today poses an existential threat to this country, to our democracy, to free and fair elections.” Biden can defeat Trump, O’Rourke continued, because he is “the antithesis of Donald Trump. Joe Biden is decent, he’s kind, he’s caring, he’s empathetic.”
In Biden, Democrats have a candidate who can “re-establish the moral authority of the United States,” O’Rourke declared. “We need somebody who will fight for democracy here and abroad, because democracy is under attack here and abroad. We need Joe Biden.”
O’Rourke dropped out of the Democratic presidential race last fall. He was the third former candidate to announce support of Biden on Monday night, following former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).
