Cold snap continues, will the snow return? BBC WEATHER has warned of more snow in Britain this weekend as the Beast from the East makes its return to the UK, only weeks after it caused chaos throughout Europe.
Brutally cold easterly winds are forecast to return on Saturday, forcing temperatures below freezing for much of the country.
A BBC Weather map shows a set of cold winds head towards the UK from northern Europe, threatening of plunging temperatures and even more snow in Britain over the weekend.
BBC Weather Meteorologist Matt Taylor said: “This area of high pressure in Scandinavia is fighting back, pushing the mild air away and into the weekend it is set to introduce cold air once again.
“And with a cold wind, temperatures are set to drop and we could see the return of some snow.
The cold weather will follow a mild week with temperatures expected to reach double figures along with widespread rainfall over the coming days.
Met Office forecaster Martin Bowles warned of heavy showers for much of the UK. He said: “There is a low-pressure system approaching from the west on Wednesday bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
“These could touch gale-force in exposed parts but it is the rain which will be the main issue with up to 50mm [2 ins] expected over high ground.
“The west will see the worst of this system although it will move eastwards through the day, it will pull mid air up from the south so temperatures could reach 13C (55.4F) or 14C (57.2F).”
“The good news to a certain extent is the snow is not going to be as heavy as we have seen over in the USA during the last 24 hours.”
Meteorologist Liam Dutton also warned Britons could be set to see “another burst of Siberian air” sweep across the nation.
He tweeted: “Beast from the east, part two?
“Another burst of Siberian air may push westwards over Europe next weekend. It’s unlikely to be as intense or as prolonged as the last cold spell.
“Nevertheless, it brings the possibility of snow, frost and a late season chill back into the mix…”
Mr Bowles warned that temperatures will plummet by the weekend after a huge area of high pressure will bring freezing temperatures to the country.
He said: “We expect high pressure to build over Scandinavia again which will allow an easterly flow to become established from Friday through until Monday.
“Where this air originates, from Poland and Eastern Europe, is still cold so temperatures will fall significantly here in Britain, it looks like being a drier feature than the last time.
“However there is the possibility of some snow although this is most likely along the eastern side of the country over the weekend.”
Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden warned colder weather will be accompanied by further heavy snowfall.
