Conor McGregor Joins “Game of Thrones”? The UFC lightweight champion and former featherweight champion seems to be making inroads to a career in pictures, with a role on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

McGregor got a foretaste of the show last year when he trained with the actor who plays the character Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane at a gym in Dublin.

A video of him sparring with the 6.9″, 400lbs Icelandic strongman Hafpor Julius Bjornsson went viral.

But this time around it’s going to be for real for the Dubliner, with a cameo role being lined up for one of the two remaining seasons of the world’s most downloaded show, which is partly filmed in Northern Ireland.

“It’s been agreed that McGregor will appear in one of the remaining two seasons in Game of Thrones,” a well-placed source told Northern Ireland newspaper Sunday Life.

“He was headhunted, as it were by HBO, as one of the Game of Thrones directors is a huge UFC fan. They believed he would be the perfect fit for the show.”

However it’s not McGregor’s first flirtation with acting.

The Irish champ was due to star in the latest instalment of the Vin Diesel action franchise, xXx :The Return of Xander Cage, but withdrew from making his film debut in order to focus on his rematch with Nate Diaz.

McGregor also features in the latest instalment of the popular Call of Duty computer game, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare alongside Game of Thrones favourite Kit Harrington.

McGregor’s appearance in the HBO drama is bound to be a ratings winner, though he’s not the only big name star being lined up for a role.

A whole host of other well known names are due to star in the show including Oscar winner Jim Broadbent and Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt.

Game Of Thrones is set to finish it’s award-winning run following the release of season eight in 2018 after producers recently said that only two more series were likely to happen.

One of the creators said that part of their decision to end it sooner rather than later is that they don’t want the show to ever become stale.
