An aged care centre battling a major coronavirus outbreak in Sydney’s west has recorded its first death.
A 93-year-old man died at Newmarch House in Penrith this morning where another 30 residents and staff have also tested positive for COVID-19.
The resident had already been suffering from serious health issues before contracting the virus.
“The resident’s family has been contacted, as have all the relevant authorities,” Anglicare residential chief operating officer Gavin Pretorius said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families through this very distressing time.”
The 93-year-old was one of 20 residents who had been infected after coming into contact with an unwitting staff member who had the virus.
