Emotions spilled over at Adelaide airport last night as the final Perth arrivals crossed the border just before the West Australian capital plunged into a five-day lockdown.
Travellers were caught out mid-air as South Australia re-instated a hard border closure to Western Australia from 10.15pm Sunday night.
The drastic move comes after a security guard at Perth’s Sheraton Four Points Hotel tested positive to the highly contagious UK strain of coronavirus.
“One minute they were getting on a flight, the next minute the we heard that Perth was in lockdown so we weren’t sure if we were going to be able to see her,” an Adelaide local said, relieved to greet loved ones at the airport.
“We were a bit worried that we were going to be sent back,” a Perth arrival said.
Some arrivals said there were mixed messages even as they were processed at the terminal.
