A 94-year-old spectator died while at the U.S. Open at Erin Hills on Friday, the United States Golf Association announced.

The person was not immediately identified, but Washington County Sheriff Dale Schmidt said the spectator was a man “who has appeared to have died of natural causes,” according to the USGA.

“Out of respect for the family we are unable to provide additional information at this time,” the USGA statement said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those surrounding this individual at this difficult time.”

The Washington County sheriff’s office said Hartford rescue personnel and Washington County sheriff’s deputies, stationed at the Open, were dispatched to the grandstand by the sixth hole at 1:25 p.m. The man, who was from Wauwatosa, was pronounced dead in an on-site ambulance, according to the Washington County sheriff’s office. It was the man’s first visit to the Open, the USGA said in a statement.
