An Image of a Girl Scout Facing Down a Neo-Nazi Has Become the Latest Viral Protest Picture.
If courage, tenacity and general badass-ness are not the qualities that spring to mind when you think of girl scouts, then you’ve been buying cookies from the wrong ones.
A photograph of girl scout Lucie has gone viral in which the teenager is seen confidently and calmly confronting a far-right protestor at a rally in the Czech Republic. Comparisons have been made between the powerful image and that off Saffiyah Khan staring down an EDL figure earlier this year.
The image was shared by World Organisation of the Scout Movement and heralded as a symbol of peace and resilience in the face of hatred and fear.
The march was allegedly organised by the DSSS Workers’ Party – a far-right party in the Czech Republic but was interrupted by peaceful protesters. Anička Čámská, a member of the Czech scouting group, who was at the rally, said: “There was some kind of far-right march, so a bunch of people wen there as well to protest in a peaceful way – they were dancing and painting. Later more people came to protest against neo-Nazis with drums and so on. The message was ‘we are tired of your hate and pessimism’.”

The photographer, Vladimír Čičmanec explained the story behind the image to IBTimes,
“I was thinking about the Saffiyah Khan photo when I started shooting, the situation looked similar, and the bubbles were just a sweet coincidence,” he said.
“I thought ‘this will be a nice photo’, but in the sense ‘when my friends see it on Facebook, they’ll probably like it.'” he said. “I initially shared it with limited privacy not thinking much about it. And then people wanted me to make it public and it exploded.”
