Hamilton cast midterms new song, filmed backstage.
The current cast of the hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” dropped a new song urging Americans to vote in midterm elections.
The song, filmed backstage at Saturday night’s performance in New York City, laments low voter turnout and blasts common excuses for not voting.
“It might be nice, it might be nice, to get Democracy back on track,” the cast sings.

The song, “The Election of 2018,” was written by the show’s music director, Kurt Crowley, according to ABC News.
“Text less. Vote more. Show everyone what you’re against or what you’re for,” one cast member sings.
“The company of ‘Hamilton’ won’t get no satisfaction until we raise the voter turnout with a plan of action.”
The original Broadway cast of “Hamilton” also released a video telling fans to vote, saying that “the ‘room where it happens’ is wherever your voting booth is” – a reference to a hit song from the show.

Award-winning “Hamilton” creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda is an outspoken political activist. He has repeatedly criticized President Trump, particularly over his handling of the hurricane recovery in Puerto Rico.
In 2016, the cast called out Vice President Mike Pence as he attended the show, telling him: “We hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us.”
The comments drew criticism from Trump, who demanded the cast apologize.
