A body was recovered from the shores of Lake Ontario in Oakville after a car was found flipped over on the rocks at the end of Maple Grove Drive early Monday morning.

Police said they would not be releasing the identity of the body, age or any other details other than to say the discovery of the body was in relation to an incident earlier in the morning. In that incident, a 22-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and refuse to provide a breath sample. Police have not released his name, where he’s from or whether or not he suffered any injuries.

At approximately 3:05 a.m. Monday, Halton police headed to the area of Maple Grove Drive and Lakeshore Road East to investigate reports of someone knocking on doors.

After arriving on scene, officers found a man in the area and a navy blue Chrysler four-door sedan flipped over rocks, lying on its top in the water of the lake at the dead end of Maple Grove.

Police said the car went through a metal guard rail and into the lake.

Halton police’s Marine Unit discovered the body shortly after 11 a.m. to the west of Maple Grove near the area of what used to be the Edgemere Estate. Halton police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken over the investigation.

Uniform patrol officers and members of the search incident response team, marine unit, collision reconstruction unit and criminal investigations bureau had searched the area throughout the morning to find out if there were any other occupants in the vehicle.
