Man hijacks bus in China, 8 killed, 22 hurt (Reports).
Eight people were killed and 22 injured after a knife-man hijacked a bus that plowed into traffic and pedestrians on Tuesday in Longyan, Southeast China’s Fujian Province.
A man holding three bloody 10-centimeter-long knives was captured by police, an eyewitness told the Beijing News. The bus hit a car, a taxi and three motorcycles, the witness said.
A police officer was among the five killed, Longyan police said on their official microblog.
The unemployed 48-year-old suspect argued with a community official on Tuesday before hijacking the bus, said China Central Television, citing information from Longyan government.
The suspect had an argument with a neighborhood committee official who was taking photos for government documents, the report said.
Seven people, including some unconscious victims, were taken to Longyan People’s Hospital, a hospital staffer told the newspaper.
The No. 35 bus route passes hospitals, commercial streets, government and schools in Longyan, a city of about 2.6 million residents in southwestern Fujian Province that borders Guangdong Province.
Police offered no information about the suspect at press time as investigations are underway.
