Microsoft has just given a name to Windows 10 version 20H2, October 2020 Update. The operating system is now available for testing. Clearly the final version is already available.
It takes the form of build 19042.508 deployed on the Release Preview channel of the Windows Insider program. It is therefore possible now to discover this new evolution of the Microsoft OS. Although this is the final version, the giant explains that its teams are still at work to make the final adjustments and fixes to optimize the experience before the final kickoff.
MICROSOFT WINDOWS 10 OCTOBER 2020 UPDATE IS READY FOR RELEASE
On this subject, they explain “Today, we are releasing Build 19042.508 (KB4571756) to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. We believe that Build 19042.508 is the final build and still plan on continuing to improve the overall experience of the October 2020 Update on customers’ PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence.”
For example, a known problem without a solution is already specified. It affects the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL). A bug causes it to malfunction, resulting in the error ” Element not found ” when starting it. A fix is under study but no release date at this time. A workaround is to uninstall KB4571756.
Windows 10 October 2020 Update will roll out in stages. Its arrival is gradual. A manual process is necessary to trigger its download and installation. The goal is to be able to control the dysfunctions if they exist by limiting the number of victims. The operating system is therefore not available to everyone. In this regard Microsoft specifies:
“Please note that the October 2020 Update will be available to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update at first. This means Insiders will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install 20H2. Once an Insider updates their PC to the October 2020 Update, they will continue to automatically receive new servicing updates through Windows Update (like the monthly update process).”
Windows 10 October 2020 Update is not a major release. Like the November 2020 Update, it takes the form of a kind of Service Pack with bug fixes and improvements, but no new functionalities. The OS is also automatically deployed on PCs in the Beta channel.
WINDOWS 10 TURNS 5 YEARS OLD WITH OVER ONE BILLION USER
On July 29, 2020, Windows 10 turned 5 years old. This operating system was released in mid-2015. It was offered as a free upgrade to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. Using this trick, Microsoft hoped to very quickly increase the number of active users of the new OS at that time. Up to 1 billion in 2-3 years! But, it did not work out. Microsoft reached the coveted billion only this year.
