Trump abruptly ends interview with CBS’ Dickerson after wiretapping questions.
President Donald Trump cut an interview with CBS anchor John Dickerson short after being asked about his claim that former President Barack Obama wiretapped his campaign.
Dickerson pressed Trump on claims the president made ā with no evidence ā back in March that Obama had wiretapped Trump Tower, claims that intelligence community officials, Obama aides, and even prominent Republican lawmakers have disputed.
āSurveillance of our citizens, I think that is a very big topic, and itās a topic that should be number one, and we should find out what the hell is going on,ā Trump began.
āI just wanted to find out ā youāre the President of the United States ā you said he was āsickā and ābad,’ā Dickerson responded.
āYou can take it any way you want,ā Trump said.
The āFace the Nationā host then pressed the president. āIām asking you because you donāt want it to be fake news. I want to hear it from President Trump.ā
āYou donāt have to ask me,ā Trump responded. āYou donāt have to ask me.ā When asked why, Trump added ābecause I have my own opinions, you can have your own opinions.ā
Dickerson replied, āBut I want to know your opinions. Youāre the president of the United States.ā
āThatās enough,ā Trump said, walking away from Dickerson and sitting down at the Oval Office desk. āThank you. Thank you very much.ā
Following the interview, CBS anchor Gayle King asked Dickerson if he was escorted out of the Oval Office.
āI think it was pretty clear that I was to escort myself out, or I would be escorted out, I would be moved along,ā he said. āIt was time for our conversation to be over.ā
