An assault on a Calgary Transit bus driver last month is being investigated as a hate crime, Calgary police say.
The incident took place Sept. 3, 2018, around 11:30 a.m. when police say a woman got on a bus and became verbally abusive toward the driver, yelling racial slurs.
The bus was going south on 18th Street S.E. near 69th Avenue S.E. at the time. Following the incident, the driver pulled over and asked the woman to leave the bus.
The woman threw a slush drink at the driver before fleeing the scene, police said in a news release Wednesday.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.
The woman is described as Indigenous, five feet four inches tall and of medium build. She is believed to be in her 20s. At the time of the assault, she was wearing a white and pink hoodie and black pants.
