In the midst of all the Jussie Smollett bedlam, you may have missed the suit against the city of South Pasadena, CA which was filed by the mother of ex-ER actress Vanessa Marquez.

Marquez was killed in an officer-involved shooting at her home on the 31st of August of last year.

From the original story: “Officers were conducting a welfare check at the request of Marquez’s landlord when she allegedly pulled out a ‘BB type’ replica gun, causing officers to open fire. She was later pronounced dead at a LA hospital.

When the shooting happened, ‘there was an LA County mental health clinician here with the officers,’ Lt. Joe Mendoza of the LA County Sheriff’s Office said. ‘They began to communicate with her, she became very uncooperative, and during that contact she armed herself with a handgun, she pointed it at the officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred.’

Marquez was undergoing some medical problems and appeared ‘gravely disabled’ to the officers, Mendoza said.”

According to Deadline, “The claim, which is a precursor to a lawsuit, alleges battery, negligence, unlawful entry, false arrest and imprisonment, wrongful death, negligent training, conspiracy, seizure of property, failure to summon prompt medical care and violation of the Bane Act — which forbids acts of violence because of race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, etc.”

The city says it is currently investigating the shooting.

Stay tuned for more on this as we hear it.
