The Prime Minister is among a number of high profile Australians to send their condolences after an autistic teen lost in dense bush east of Melbourne for more than 30 hours was tragically found dead.
A massive search was launched for William Wall, 14, who hadn’t been seen since he left his Launching Place home at 6.45am on Tuesday.
But authorities on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the tragic discovery.
“Victoria Police can confirm the sad news that 14-year-old William Wall has been located deceased in Yarra Junction,” police said in a statement.
“His death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.
“Police would like to thank the media and all those involved in the search.”
William told family he would only be gone for 15 minutes.
State Emergency Service crews searched the thick bushland about 50km east of the CBD throughout Tuesday night where the temperature dropped to about 7C.
Volunteers spent the night calling out “William, this is the SES, can you hear us” in the hope he would be drawn to their voices.
After the announcement, Prime Minister Scott Morrison tweeted his “heart goes out” to William’s family after the “very sad news”. The PM is among a number of high profile names tweeting their condolences.
