Coronavirus Australia Updates: Sydney's New Year's Eve fireworks set to go ahead

Sydney’s iconic New Years Eve fireworks display could go ahead this year as daily coronavirus number continue to dwindle across New South Wales.

The event is expected to look a little bit different, but the NSW Government says it is willing to foot the bill to give people around the world a sign of hope after a rough 2020.

Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres will meet with Lord Mayor Clover Moore today to try and get the City of Sydney onboard.

Some ideas that have been floated include making it a ticketed event with reduced numbers at popular vantage points, offering free public transport to the event for people wearing protective masks as well as localised concerts at locations such as Cook Park, Phillip Park and Martin Place on the day.
