The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken part in a special video celebration for St. Patrick’s Day alongside world leaders including US President, Joe Biden.

Japan’s Princess Takamado also contributed to the messages which were shared online by the Irish Foreign Ministry as St. Patrick’s Day got under way.

Following President Biden at the start of the video, William and Kate wished everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Prince William attempted his message in Gaeilge before recalling the visit that the couple made to the Republic of Ireland in March 2020. The Duchess of Cambridge went on to say that ”the warm welcome that we received everywhere was a testament to the friendship between our two countries and the strength of the relationship between the UK and Ireland.”

Prince William added ”we know that for Irish people all around the world, today won’t be the same as normal but we hope you can celebrate safely in any case.”

Princess Takamado also sent her best wishes for St. Patrick’s Day, saying ”I recall with great affection, the extraordinary and warm welcome that I received in Ireland during my last visit in 2017…until we meet again, please do stay safe.”

There were also messages from Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and New Zealand’s PM, Jacinda Arden. Norway’s Premier, Erna Solberg, and Australia’s Prime Minister, Scott Morrison in the special video.

Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day, The Queen sent a special message to the President of the Republic of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, touching on the famous State Visit she made in 2011. The Queen added that people in both countries ”share ties of family, friendship and affection – the foundation of our partnership that remains as important today as ten years ago”.
