Apple iPhone 8 secrets leaked? A new high end iPhone may be called the iPhone X, according to firmware leaks. If correct, the leaks indicate that Apple will launch three new iPhone models on Tuesday September 12th called the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

At least one of the new phones will have a ‘bezelless’ screen, where the display stretches from edge to edge of the device. This allows Apple to increase the size of the screen without increasing the size of the handset.

Unearthed by Irish software developer Steven Troughton Smith, the firmware leaks also indicate that Apple is phasing out its traditional ‘home’ button on the iPhone. The company may replace some of the functions served by the home button by using the power button on the side of the device. Additionally, the new iPhone is said to have new gesture controls at the bottom of the handset.

Apple is also said to be launching new animated emoji, as well as face identification technology that could with compliment or replace its current Touch ID.

The company is also expected to improve the camera technology, with stabilisation included in both dual cameras on the rear of the phone. New lighting modes may also be introduced.

Apple is said to be adding some new 3D-sensing functionality to its cameras, which could help kickstart ‘augmented reality’ features and apps. Companies like Ikea are already redesigning their apps to take advantage of this. The new iPhone should allow you to virtually place any furniture you’re thinking of buying into one of your rooms to see what it would look like.

Maps is another beneficiary with the device possibly able to show you where to turn on the street, as opposed to looking at a drawn map of the street.

Apple is also believed to be launching a new version of the Apple Watch which will have 4G connectivity built into it. This might work in the same way as Amazon Kindles work, with connectivity provided by a local operator either by paying Apple a monthly tariff or a higher price at the point of purchase.
