One of the most exciting moments of Game of Thrones season 7 involved the return of Benjen Stark, who intervened at the last minute to save Jon Snow after the young hero found himself surrounded by an army of White Walkers in the episode titled “Beyond the Wall.” Sending Jon Snow to safety on the back of his horse, Benjen was last seen single-handily taking on the undead army, leaving his fate open to interpretation in the eyes of many viewers. Now, episode director Alan Taylor has confirmed Benjen Stark’s death in the audio commentary for “Beyond the Wall”, stating:

“He meets his end here.”
