Coronavirus Australia Update: COVID-19 cases continue to climb

Australia has 3167 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus.

New South Wales announced a further 186 coronavirus cases on Friday morning.

Of those, 53 have been admitted to hospital and 19 are in intensive care.

Victoria recorded 54 new coronavirus cases and other states are due to report their COVID-19 tallies throughout the day.

A Serbian court has sentenced a man to three years jail for flouting self-isolation orders.

State TV says the Balkan country’s first such sentence was handed out in a video linked court session.

Also awaiting trial in Serbia for ignoring orders to stay at home are 112 others.

Some 50,000 people are under lockdown, most of them Serbs who have returned to the country from abroad after the March 15 introduction of the nationwide state of emergency.

The country has recorded 435 coronavirus cases and seven deaths, and has some of the most restrictive measures in Europe. They include a 12-hour police enforced curfew and a 24-hour ban on leaving home for those over 65.
