Sydney’s inner and eastern suburbs have experienced some of the biggest job losses in NSW while three regional areas have defied trends and recorded increases since the start of the pandemic, amid warnings these geographic disparities could continue for years.

Payroll jobs – workers who are paid employees – have fallen by nearly 9 per cent in Sydney’s inner city between March 14, the week Australia recorded its 100th case of COVID-19, and September 5, new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has shown.

Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Botany, Rockdale, Auburn and Canterbury also recorded falls of between 7 and 8 per cent.

– Coles stores added to Victorian COVID exposure sites

The Health Department has updated its list of COVID-19 exposure sites in Victoria.

Anyone who was on the Lilydale train between Mitcham and Ringwood on Wednesday between 12.15-2.00pm should monitor for symptoms.

Two Coles stores in Mitcham have been added to the list of sites. If you attended the store in Victoria Avenue on September 19 about 3.15pm or the store at Mitcham shopping centre on Wednesday about 2pm, you may be at risk.

Earlier today, health authorities told people to check for symptoms if they travelled on the 907 bus route to/from Mitcham on September 19 between 3-3.30pm or on 23 September between 12-2.30pm.
