$100000 Harambe Cheeto sparks boom in silly-snack auctions.
Anyone who missed out on the chance to buy a grilled-cheese sandwich with an image of the Virgin Mary in 2004 got another shot at “history” this week.
A single Flamin’ Hot Cheeto purportedly shaped like Harambe, the gorilla slain at the Cincinnati Zoo last year, was up for bid on eBay, an item described by the seller as “one of a kind.”
It’s no bargain, though … with less than an hour to go early Tuesday morning, bidding stood at $99,900. The good news is shipping is free, but it doesn’t include the bag.
That makes the Virgin Mary grilled-cheese sandwich seem like a bargain at $28,000 … inflation, you know.
The Cheeto had drawn 132 bids with less than an hour to go. There’s no way to know if the bidders are serious, though.
Harambe, a 17-year-old western lowland gorilla, was shot by zoo officials after a 4-year-old boy climbed into the gorilla enclosure in May 2016.
