A 38-year-old woman is facing charges for allegedly trying to smuggle over a kilogram of heroin through Calgary International Airport.
The woman had allegedly swallowed heroin pellets before passing through security last month, the RCMP said in a statement on Wednesday. She was also allegedly carrying heroin hidden inside her suitcase.
Police said the amount of heroin seized on the woman worked out to around 13,500 individual doses.
She was intercepted by the Canada Border Services Agency and later handed off to the RCMP.
Mariam Salehe, 38, has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and importation of a controlled substance.
She is due to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Friday.
