A petition calling for justice for Mia Khalifa has gained traction this week as the former porn star battles to have her films erased from the internet.
The star, who shot 11 films while working in the adult industry for three months when she was 21, has been detailing the roadblocks she’d faced in attempting to have her clips taken down. Claiming adult company BangBros is ‘promoting her six-year-old videos like they’re new’, fans have now rallied behind the now-27-year-old, with the tag #JusticeForMia trending, and a petition garnering more than 1.6million signatures. BangBros has said claims being made about the company are ‘false and defamatory’.
The Change.Org petition is demanding Mia’s ‘domain names be returned, [and] her videos be removed and fairly discussed in court without putting Mia Khalifa into deep financial ruin’. Mia has previously spoken about the abuse she’s received due to her videos, claiming she’s received death threats from Isis due to one particular film depicting her wearing an Islamic headscarf.
The petition reads: ‘The now 27-year-old Mia Khalifa appeared in the porn industry for a short span of three months in 2014 at the then age of 21. She was only paid $12k (£9,000) from the millions of dollars that Pornhub and BangBros make off her videos. ‘The infamous hijab video has collected Isis death threats that have targeted Mia from the video’s release in 2014 to today.
Mia attends therapy on a consistent basis for trauma, emotional distress, and consequences of bullying.’ Mia has been open in speaking about her experience in the porn industry, which has riled up many. Sharing her thoughts on her time in the adult film industry, Mia recently lamented ‘the hourly dissociative attack from remembering hundreds of millions of people’s only impression of you is solely based on the lowest, most toxic, most uncharacteristic three months of your life when you were 21’.
