Peter Kay confirms there will be NO more Car Share – not even a Christmas special.

The popular BBC comedy series follows two supermarket employees – played by Kay and Sian Gibson – as they share the journey to and from work every day.

The programme has become a huge hit with TV viewers, who have been left devastated after Kay announced there will be no more.

Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, he said: “There’s not going to be a series three.

“You’ve got to get out while the going’s good. No Christmas special, no.”

Kay last year won two Bafta TV awards for the show, including best scripted comedy and best male performance in a comedy programme, for his role as assistant manager John Redmond.

The comedian added: “I am absolutely delighted and overwhelmed by everybody’s support and the fact that everyone’s loved it so much has been wonderful for everyone who’s made it, but you’re better quitting while you’re ahead.

“There’s only so much you can do in a car and the last thing you want to do is ruin it because I think it’s a lovely thing.

“It’s been wonderful working with Sian, who’s one of my closest friends in the world. We have a good laugh but I think sometimes you’ve got to just leave things.

“You need good ideas – that’s the problem. You need good strong stories. A lot of series tend to go on for one series too many, especially with comedies, and I think people say ‘ooh, it’s gone off, that’.

Series two of Car Share featured a surprise cameo from Ballycastle actor Conleth Hill as drunk co-worker Elsie.

The Olivier award-winning star – who is best known as Lord Varys in Game of Thrones – took on the role of a drunken smurf in the hilarious episode set before and after a staff fancy dress party.
