Halloween came early for Katy Perry this year.
The costume-loving “American Idol” judge, 34, went all out for the show’s Disney-themed episode on Sunday in Los Angeles, channeling her inner villain as Ursula from “The Little Mermaid.”
Designed by Perry’s longtime creative director Johnny Wujek, the outfit featured a black strapless jumpsuit by Shokra — a brand known for unique costume design and worn by Lady Gaga, Ashanti and more — with sparkling tentacles at the bottom and a sheer purple mesh shirt on top.
However, it was the hair, makeup and props that made Perry’s Ursula come to life. Not only did the “Teenage Dream” singer paint her entire face purple, but makeup artist Michael Anthony also added bright blue eyeshadow and huge false eyelashes to complete the cartoonish look.
Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton crafted Perry’s blonde hair into a spiked yet wavy style for an “under the sea” vibe, while a glass of shrimp cocktail served as the perfect finishing touch.
Despite happily posing with fellow judges and laughing maniacally on the red carpet, Perry said the character didn’t come naturally to her. “Actually, to be quite honest, was a little hard playing a villain,” Perry told People. “I’m not a good villain! I just want to be joyful.”
Seems like she nailed it.
